Analyzing the link between Iranian-Islamic art types (case studies: visual reflection of Rostam's mental states in the lithographic Shahnameh 1267 AH)

Abstract

The arrival of the lithography industry in Qajar period in Iran brought about a great progress and change in the broad level of Iranian-Islamic art. By making it possible to publish literary, historical, scientific, cultural works, etc., more social classes got the opportunity to benefit from science and literature.Because of this, culture grew more at the level of society. Ferdowsi's Shahnameh, as a national document of Iranian identity and a guardian of the Persian language, was one of the works that, as in the past, was noticed by the founders of printing in Iran and was published several times in illustrated form. One of the valuable prints was published in 1267 AH (preserved in the Astan Quds Razavi Library, under registration number 43431), which is actually known as the first illustrated lithographic Shahnameh in Iran, the exclusive illustrations of which were executed by Mirza Ali Qoli Khoei. The aim of the current research, relying on the descriptive-analytical method, is to answer the question of how Rostam's mental states are reflected in the illustrations of Shahnameh 1267 AH and to what extent is it compatible with the text of the poems?
