Aesthetics is one of the fundamental pillars of art that plays a vital role in the perception, interpretation, and creation of artistic works. Understanding these principles is especially significant in analyzing contemporary artworks. Considering the presence of Iranian artists in international events such as the Venice Biennale, it is essential to study the aesthetic features of these works to provide both a framework for analyzing contemporary art and a basis for enhancing artistic understanding among researchers and students of art. Accordingly, the theoretical framework of this research is based on Heinrich Wölfflin’s formalist approach and his five pairs of opposing concepts. The aim of this study is to analyze the aesthetic characteristics and visual qualities of three sculptures by Hamidreza Avishei, the selected representative of Iran at the Venice Biennale. The main research question is: What aesthetic principles and components are employed in Hamidreza Avishei’s sculptures? The present study follows a descriptive–analytical method. Data have been collected through library sources, direct observation of artworks, interviews with the artist, and reliable online references. The findings indicate that Avishei’s sculptures possess a coherent visual structure, a creative use of formal elements and composition, and a dynamic interplay of Wölfflin’s binary contrasts, which distinguish them among the works presented.
