The current study employs the iconology approach to analyze Kazem Chalipa's “Desert Painting”, with the objective of investigating the portrayal and significance of the mother archetype within this artwork. This research constitutes a qualitative study in the field of art history, conducted through a descriptive-analytical method and employing Panofsky's iconology approach. The central inquiry of this research aims to examine the concealed and symbolic implications of sacred defense art, with a specific emphasis on the significant portrayal of women as the mother archetype in desert paintings, employing the iconology approach. The findings of the research indicate that Kazem Chalipa has made deliberate efforts to portray women as emblematic representations of both homeland and motherland, employing the mother archetype. Inspired by the mother archetype, the artist has portrayed an Iranian woman as a symbolic embodiment of the motherland and the sacred guardian of the land. Chalipa has also established a crucial connection between the concept of sacred defense art and the realm of mystical art by faithfully incorporating the thematic inspiration from Hafez poem into his painting. Through the artist's individual aesthetic sensibility and imaginative prowess, this artwork endeavors to symbolically and mysteriously portray the social realities of the revolution and war, thus positioning itself as a significant and influential contribution to the history of sacred defense art.
