In ancient Iran, images are always related to verbal narratives; This feature is very visible in the depiction of the Simorgh (mythical bird). The present research, while comparing the description of Simorgh in the written texts of the Sasanian era (224-651 BC) with its pictures in the reliefs and practical objects of this period, investigates the expressive capabilities of each of these two media in creating the image of Simorgh and explaining the type of interaction between words and images in this is a special case. The research method is descriptive-analytical and the method of data collecting is documentary. In order to explain the quality of interaction between words and pictures in the construction of Simorgh image, Perry Nodelman's theory on word-image relation in illustrated children s books das been used. He believes that when images and words refer to a single topic, sometimes they confirm each other's message and sometimes develop it.
The results of the research show that the image of Sasanian Simorgh not only confirms the verbal text but also develops the text. On the other hand, some features of Simorgh that are not mentioned in the text can be seen in the picture. Also, the image of Simorgh has details that are the visual equivalent of the invisible features of this mythological creature.
